The Letter 31

Chapter 31
Like Ecstasy

That Monday, Chanyeol couldn’t stop grinning. It annoyed the hell out of Baekhyun, not because of the fact that they had become “official”—whether or not it was forced, it didn’t matter since Baekhyun never objected on purpose—but because of that fact that everyone knew what was going on. Apparently, whenever Baekhyun wasn’t looking at him and when Chanyeol wasn’t pretending to be happy with that girl, Chanyeol was utterly down in the dumps. Obviously, this new change in mood pointed straight at him.

Baekhyun was thankful to Chanyeol for one thing though: covering his ass when his parents couldn’t find their beloved honor-roll son in his room the morning after. He didn’t understand how Chanyeol had done it, but Baekhyun wasn’t going to ask. Surprisingly, a day later, his parents—feeling guilty about not trusting their son—gave Baekhyun his car back. He no longer had to hitch rides from Kyungsoo, but at the same time, he didn’t have to accept any of Chanyeol’s offers anymore. Bummer…

In the halls, there were instances where Chanyeol would see Baekhyun and try to walk along side with him, every so often trying to lock their hands together. In the beginning of the day, Baekhyun would flinch and move his hand, but by mid-afternoon, he didn’t care anymore. He let the giant hold his hand.

It didn’t take long for Baekhyun to realize there was more to being the boyfriend of one of the most notorious people in school than he thought. It wasn’t the overly jealous girls. There were barely any that confronted Baekhyun—most likely, they were threatened to keep quiet. It was the fact that upon finding out Chanyeol and Baekhyun were officially dating, Kris and Kai kidnapped Baekhyun while he was walking over to the cafeteria.

Kai opened the door to his car and Kris put Baekhyun inside. Baekhyun didn’t really struggle since he knew the two and Kris’ grip on his wasn’t overly hurtful. He waited for the two get in the car and didn’t bother running away. He didn’t think he’d outrun them anyways. What was he against the guy who lived at the gym and studio, and a guy rumoured to have been expelled from his last school?”

When Kai turned the car on, he looked in the rearview mirror and said, “Don’t worry, Byun. We’re just going off campus to eat today.”

“Okay,” Baekhyun replied. “I’m guessing Chanyeol doesn’t know about this.”

Kris shook his head even though he knew Baekhyun wouldn’t see. “Nope.”

Baekhyun sighed and put on the seat belt. “Alright, then. Let’s go.”

Once their food was delivered and their drinks present, Kris went straight to the point. “So, here’s the deal. You’re now dating, Yeol.”

“Park Chanyeol,” Kai emphasized.

“Yeah. Park Chanyeol,” Kris said, correcting himself. “We’re just here to set a few things straight, Byun, so don’t think we’re here to wine and dine you, then force you to break up with him.”

“It’s the opposite of that,” Kai said, holding a finger up. “We’re here to tell you a few things about Chanyeol.”

“To set things straight, like I said,” Kris said, nodding his head. “I’m going to start this by telling you ‘congratulations’. You caught that fickle idiot’s heart. Usually, by the time Kai, Sehun, and I get organized enough to single out one of Chanyeol’s love interests, he beats us to the punch, tires of them, cheats on them—sometimes—and kicks them to the curb.”

“Thanks…I guess,” Baekhyun muttered. His hands moved to the side and picked up his drink.

“Moving on,” Kai said. “Now, we all know that money is not an issue for Yeol. That’s because of his parents.”

“Of course,” Baekhyun muttered. He took a sip from his drink.

“His parents are in the medical field…I guess. Owning a pharmaceutical company counts as being in that field, right?” Kai asked, looking at Kris, who shrugged. “Ok, anyways, yeah. His parents are rarely home, though. They travel a lot and do a lot of work in other countries.”

“That explains why no one’s walked in on you two having intercourse before,” Kris added. He dismissed the look on Baekhyun’s face. “For the most part of his life, Yeol’s been left alone.”

“Hence why he holds parties and drinks. He was never really disciplined.”

“Eh.” Kris bobbled his head. “None of us were, but we’re talking about Yeol, right now.”

“So basically, he’s been alone all this time. Even with the three of us, Chanyeol’s family was basically the help around the house. The guy wouldn’t stop gushing about your parents for fuck’s sake,” Kai said.

“My parents?”

Kris and Kai glanced at each other. “Yeah...” Kai raised a brow. “Didn’t he have dinner at your house one time?”

Baekhyun thought about it and remembered. Chanyeol had eaten at his house the evening of the day he came bursting into his little get-together with Lay at the ice cream shop. “Yeah. He did.” Baekhyun paused. “Wait—he was gushing about them?”

Kai smirked. “He liked them. A lot.” He pointed to Baekhyun’s salad in front of him. “You should start eating that.”

Baekhyun looked down and meekly picked up his fork. “Okay…”

“Now, onto Chanyeol’s old relationships,” Kris said, starting a new topic. “They never really lasted long.”

“Even we’re doubtful that you’ll last,” Kris admitted.

“Oh, I see,” Baekhyun said, awkwardly nodding his head as he lifted his food up his mouth.

“But that’s the thing,” Kris sighed. “If you don’t last, let Chanyeol be the one to break up with you.”

“Let him be the one to—”

“Whoa—hold on,” Baekhyun said putting his fork down. “Are you guys trying to prepare me for when we break up?”

“Mmm, it wasn’t supposed to end up like this,” Kai hummed. “But it kind of has. Basically, don’t leave him—”

“—and wait for him to leave me,” Baekhyun finished with a dead-pan face. “I get it.”

“Wait, that came out wrong!” Kai piped. When Baekhyun stood up from his seat, Kai stood up, too and grabbed Baekhyun’s arm. “We didn’t mean it to sound like that—”

Kris was unimpressed. With his arms crossed, he ordered: “Both of you. Sit down.” The two boys paused, but listened to Kris’ command. “Byun, we’re just saying, you’re Chanyeol’s first serious interest, but with a track record like his, statistics would show that you won’t last. But then again, Chanyeol’s character changed. Honest to god, you’re all that bastard talks about. So we highly doubt that he’ll be letting you go anytime soon. Or ever.”

“But back on the subject of his parents,” Kai interjected, switching the topic again. “It’s a family business, so it’s inevitable that, um…”

“—Chanyeol has to get married with a girl,” Kris bluntly put out.

“You do realize that we’ve only been dating for a few days, right?” Baekhyun sighed. “This is making me depressed,” he groaned. “This is the worst off-campus lunch I’ve had in all my years.” There was a silence for a while before Baekhyun asked, “Can we pack this up and go back to school?”

Kris and Kai glanced over at each other. Kris was obviously unpleased with the request, but nodded anyways. “Sure. Let’s go.”

They called the waitress over and requested everything to be packed. Kris and Kai’s food were completely untouched while Baekhyun’s was only semi-untouched. The ride back to the school was spent in calm silence for the most part, until Baekhyun spoke.

“I’m not gonna break up with that idiot,” he mumbled.

“We weren’t expecting you to,” Kai replied, quietly.

“And I’ll kill him before he leaves me again,” Baekhyun added in a huff, watching the buildings pass by in a blur through his window.

Upon hearing this, Kris glanced over to Kai, who was smirking silently. Kris joined him. “Okay, Byun.”

It probably looked normal for the three of them to be walking together in the halls, but it stood out to one person: Chanyeol. When he saw Baekhyun walking in between Kris and Kai, he started running over. He hadn’t seen Baekhyun at lunch. Kris and Kai were M.I.A also. Sehun wasn’t at school. He was forced to sit with Suho, Kyungsoo, Tao and—fucking—Lay. He didn’t enjoy that.

“Yah, where’d you three come from?” Chanyeol immediately asked when he was within hearing distance of the three.

Kris and Kai sighed in unison. Kris gave Baekhyun a pat on the back as he and Kai slowed down. “Good luck with this guy,” he muttered. Coordinatedly, Kai and Kris both turned on their heels and walked back to where they came from with Baekhyun.

Baekhyun turned back and watched the two leave him to deal with Chanyeol alone. Motherfuc—“Shit…” Baekhyun groaned. When he turned his head back to the front, Chanyeol had closed the distance between them and was looking straight at him. “We, uh, went to get this,” he said, holding up a plastic bag with his share of food in a small box inside.

“Which is?”

“Lunch.”

Chanyeol grimaced. “How come it was only the three of you?”

Baekhyun shrugged. “They didn’t want you around.”

“Why not?”

“I don’t know.” Baekhyun tried to step aside and walk past Chanyeol, but Chanyeol blocked him. “I need to get back to class.”

“And I want to know why you didn’t eat lunch with me,” Chanyeol grumbled.

Baekhyun clicked his tongue and eyed the guy in front of him. “Because I didn’t want to.” Chanyeol slightly hurt by the non-serious comment. “I’m kidding! I was actually on my way to meet up with you, but they asked me if I wanted to eat off campus. I wasn’t going to say no.”

“You could have.”

“I didn’t.”

“Argh…okay. Fine.” Chanyeol stepped aside and let Baekhyun walk back to his class, walking right beside him. “Next time, invite me, too. Sitting with Lay was hell.”

“I still don’t get why you don’t like him, though,” Baekhyun muttered; his hands swinging at his side.

“Maybe I’ll tell you soon,” Chanyeol replied, taking Baekhyun’s hand in his.

At this action, Baekhyun turned his head to the side. “You’re embarrassing,” he said, but, he never pulled away.

Yes.

Luhan stared at his empty inbox before throwing the phone on the floor beside his bed. He lied in bed for a moment, not wanting to get up. His head hurt, but he knew he had things to do that day.

He got out of bed and made his way to the bathroom. The image he saw in the mirror, Luhan hated it. His hair was disheveled. His eyes had bags under them. Then the stupid kiss marks. He groaned as he opened the cabinet. Cover up…

When Luhan finished fixing his face, he went back into his bedroom and began to put clothes back on his naked state. He heard some rustling in his living room, but didn’t pay any mind to it. It wasn’t until he heard the locks on his door being undone that his ears perked.

“I’ll see you in class,” a voice from the front called.

“Yes, Professor,” Luhan answered back, indifferently. By the time Luhan heard the door shut, he was sitting on the floor with his head hung against his knees. “Damn it…” Luhan cursed, sighing heavily. He remained in the position for a minute and was only disturbed when his phone began buzzing against the hard floor.

Crawling over to the phone, Luhan reached and grabbed it. “Sehun…” What the hell is wrong with you…take the hint, damn it. Nevertheless, Luhan looked at the text sent, only to feel his heart twist to an unimaginable level.

From: Sehun

Do you still love me, Lulu?

Luhan’s grip on the phone tightened. He could feel his chest heave faster in anger, frustration, and pain. Yes, you fucking brat. More than you know. More than you’ll ever know. I love you. I love you. I love you, Sehun. I—

From: Luhan

No.

When Sehun heard his phone alert, he didn’t waste any time in opening his phone again. He was expecting a “yes”—hoping for a “yes”—but what he got was the coldest word in the dictionary. No further explanation. No elaboration. Just: “No”.

All those months of being in the dark ended when he found out that Luhan was back in the neighborhood. Then he had the best three days of his life. But now, Sehun was back in the same shit hole he had been living in for the longest time. The same shit hole that he hated.

Unable to cope, Sehun deleted the answer, wanting to pretend as if Luhan never sent that response. He jumped off his bed in a hurry, turned, and began to push his bed. Sehun was only able to push his bed’s physical position a foot or two, but that was enough for him. The bed was off the plank of wood that held Sehun’s secret.

On his knees, Sehun took the removable piece of wood out of the floor. After that was out of the way, he took out a small, compact box that fit in the tightly fit space. Sehun opened it and saw his meek, but sufficient stash of what he had tried to be clean from.

His fingers brushed against the bag and bottle in the box. Sehun’s conscience was fighting for his next action. After much quick deliberation, he gave in. Blunt or Ecstasy…Sehun sighed as he picked up the pill bottle. Ecstasy it was.

Baekhyun was trying to get Chanyeol to concentrate, but he figured that he was cutting the giant’s attention span just by being in the same room as him. Tired of Chanyeol staring at him, Baekhyun threw the pencil in his hand, aiming at Chanyeol’s chest. It was a hit. “Yah! If you’re not going to pay attention, then what am I doing here at your house wasting time trying to teach you this shit?”

Chanyeol laughed. “I’m sorry. I was just looking at you—”

“—Yeah. I noticed.”

Exhausted, Chanyeol stretched his arms, and then went back to looking at Baekhyun, who was sitting with his legs crossed on his bed, with a text book in his hand. He didn’t feel like sitting at his desk anymore. “Are we done yet?”

“Did you even start the homework problems?” Baekhyun asked.

“I got through half of them,” Chanyeol offered, grinning at the unimpressed vixen. He pushed himself off his chair and began to walk over to Baekhyun, whose pulse began to race. “Can’t we do something else? I’d prefer something more physical.”

“I didn’t come here to have sex, Park.”

Chanyeol shrugged. “So what if you came to help me study for a test? You can stay for the sex,” he sexily mumbled. He reached Baekhyun and used his hands to undo Baekhyun’s folded legs, setting them apart. Then, he took the book in Baekhyun’s hand and dropped it to the floor. “We’re alone, Baek. There’s no one here to keep face for. So drop the act and just wrap yourself around me.”

Baekhyun scowled, but there was no anger or anything negative in his eyes. Instead, he wrapped his arms around Chanyeol’s neck, pulling his down as he slowly laid himself on the mattress. “You have a really bad attention span,” Baekhyun whispered against Chanyeol’s lips.

“Not when it comes to you, I don’t,” Chanyeol replied smugly before connecting his lips with Baekhyun’s.

As their tongues mated, Chanyeol ran his hands along his vixen’s body, which arched for his touch. Chanyeol loved the way Baekhyun was being more responsive, even taking the initiative in their tongue sessions, though Chanyeol hoped that Baekhyun taking the initiative to sex would happen one day soon.

The two broke apart, rasping hard for air. Chanyeol took this opportunity to slip both hands under Baekhyun’s uniform, but he had only touched his lover’s nipples for a few seconds before a loud knock happened at his door. Choosing to ignore it, Chanyeol continued to roll the buds under his fingers.

Then, a knock happened again. This time, his butler’s voice was added. “Mr. Park, there’s a situation needed for you downstairs.”

Chanyeol grunted, lowering his head to suck at Baekhyun’s neck. He refused to answer. His hands kept running and his lips kept working.

“Mr. Park, I think it’s urgent.”

At the word “urgent”, Baekhyun took the liberty of pushing Chanyeol off with both hands. “C-Chanyeol! Stop! Answer your damn butler! He said it was urgent.”

“My needs are urgent, too!”

“Later!” Baekhyun cried, pushing himself off the bed with his elbows. “Just go deal with the situation.”

"Fine,” Chanyeol said begrudgingly. He leaned and separated off from Baekhyun. He made his way to his door and didn’t open it until he saw that Baekhyun had fixed his composure and picked the book back off the floor, pretending as if nothing happened. “What’s this situation you’re talking about?” Chanyeol asked the man.

His butler only turned on his heels and bent a finger. “I think it’s better if you see for yourself,” he said before making his way back downstairs.

Chanyeol turned his head to Baekhyun, giving him a look. Baekhyun understood and hopped off the bed to follow Chanyeol. The two left Chanyeol’s room silently, curious as to what this “situation” was. It wasn’t until they got to the flight of stairs that they saw what stood at the front of the house.

“Sehun?”

“Chanyeol! You bastard! I love you!” Sehun cried.

There was a gruff-looking man holding Sehun by his sleeveless shirt’s collar. Chanyeol could see the speckled beads of sweat on Sehun. Not too much, but enough to signal something in his head.

“Is this your friend?” the gruff man asked, holding Sehun higher—by his shirt.

“Yeah,” Chanyeol spoke.

“He says he doesn’t have any money on him. I just drove him to this address like he asked, but ran out the door the moment we got here,” the man explained. “He needs to pay the cab fees. At least someone needs to.”

Chanyeol nodded. He turned to his butler and told him to go get the man the money he was legally obligated to get. Then he turned back to the cab driver. “You can let go of him now.” The man did exactly that, but he gave Sehun a little push over to Chanyeol.

When the man got his money, he promptly thanked Chanyeol, gave Sehun the stink-eye, and left. Chanyeol took the last few steps down the stairs to confront Sehun, who wouldn’t stop moving. He was biting his lips and bending his knees, swaying from side to side, as if he was mockingly dancing.

Baekhyun didn’t know what the hell was going, but it was evident that something in Chanyeol’s mind clicked and that he knew what was wrong with Sehun. Chanyeol took Sehun by the shoulders and pushed him to the nearest wall. “How much did you take this time? How long ago?”

“Yah, Chan—Yeol! Haha! I took it hours ago, you giant idiot! I love you!” Sehun tried to pushed back against Chanyeol’s hold to rub his face against the giant, but Chanyeol wouldn’t let him. “I took it hours ago and it’s wearing off—I can feel it—but god, I still feel like I’m fucking invincible. It feels really great, Yeol—I love you! I love those words! ‘I love you’—Yes, I do—Oh! One! I took one, but oh, if I had remembered that it felt this good, I would’ve taken like ten of those fucking pills.”

“I thought you quit,” Chanyeol growled.

“Oh, who can ever quit these magical shit—yah! I’m thirsty, Chanyeol! I—Hey, Baekhyun! It’s you! Baek, let’s make out again sometime, okay?” Sehun cried, craning his head to see Baekhyun from behind Chanyeol. “I wanna know what you feel like right now, because I bet you’re fucking sensational. Fuck kissing, Baek—Let’s make love—lots and lots of love—”

“That’s it.” Chanyeol pulled Sehun off the wall and began to drag him back up the stairs. “Baek, go in the kitchen and get two glasses of water.” After Baekhyun left, worried, Chanyeol took Sehun to an empty room that had been gutted for a special guest: Sehun.

Months ago, when it became known amongst Kai, Kris, and Chanyeol that Sehun was on a downward spiral and drug usage, Sehun had asked if any one of them could be his—in a way—“safe” place. Chanyeol had offered a room under the conditional that Sehun wouldn’t take more than two pills, which Sehun agreed to. Chanyeol never thought he’d have to use or be in that room again. But, there he was. Scowling, Chanyeol entered, pushing Sehun ahead of him.

Chanyeol let go of the drugged teen before moving to the side where a lone stereo stood in a corner. When he finished putting in a cd, Baekhyun came through the door with two glasses of water in his hands. “Set them on the table,” Chanyeol said, nodding to a table in his corner.

Baekhyun did as he was told. “What’s wrong with Sehun?” he whispered, eyeing Sehun, who was jumping tirelessly around.

“Drugs…” Chanyeol mumbled back.

Baekhyun, for one, couldn’t believe his ears. Sehun? Drugs? He took another gander at his former-love and current friend. He didn’t seem like he was the type of person to be in that type of lifestyle…

“This is one of those things that you never knew about him, Baek,” Chanyeol hushly said. He pushed the disk tray into the player and waited for the stereo to be ready.

Baekhyun glanced down. Then he turned to Chanyeol. “What about you? Are you…are you into this, too?”

“No,” Chanyeol said adamantly. “I’ve done a lot of shit, Baek. This isn’t one of them.”

Baekhyun nodded. “Okay…” He took a breather. “What do we do about Sehun?”

“We’re gonna let him dance this one out. He took it hours ago so he’s just experiencing his last bit of energy,” Chanyeol explained. He hit the play button, turned up the volume moderately enough before moving Baekhyun and himself off to an adjacent corner—though, not before Chanyeol closed the door.

The two sat on the floor, stuck side by side, watching Sehun jump and move around. Chanyeol had to remind him to take a drink of water every now and again, but after a while, Baekhyun began to notice Sehun lagging. They watched the kid exert himself of all that energy for forty minutes before they knew that he was absolutely done. When Chanyeol got off the floor, Baekhyun followed. It was Chanyeol who was the first to get to Sehun, who was wobbling from the lack of energy.

Baekhyun tried to help with Sehun’s weight, but Chanyeol shook his head. “No. Go refill those glasses and come back to the guest room near my own. I’ll carry him over.”

Baekhyun didn’t like feeling like a servant. He wanted to help! But, in the end, Baekhyun knew that this was his part in helping. Without a word, he went back downstairs. Chanyeol, on the other hand, was grumbling as he took Sehun to an empty room. Despite wanting to throw the kid’s body on the bed carelessly, Chanyeol laid Sehun down with care.

Sehun, though depleted, still had enough energy left in his tired body to roll around and mutter a few things. Chanyeol thought Sehun was just muttering inaudible things, but when he stopped to listen carefully, he realized that the kid was crying into the pillow that he had shoved his face into. “Love...I love you, Lulu. I’m sorry…what can I do? Lulu…”

When Baekhyun found the room that Chanyeol had taken Sehun into, Sehun had already passed out. Baekhyun hated the sight, but moved swiftly to put the water near the bed. Chanyeol and him both looked at Sehun’s sprawled body in silence until Chanyeol asked: “‘Lulu’…Isn’t he that friend of yours? Luhan? The one who used to go to our school, right?”

Baekhyun looked up at Chanyeol. “Yeah. Why?”

“I think he’s the reason why Sehun’s like this.” Chanyeol looked in Baekhyun’s eyes. “I don’t understand what’s the deal between these two, but maybe if we contacted Luhan, they’ll talk. Maybe even make up and get back together—if they ever were—because right now, Sehun’s—”

“—I don’t think that’s gonna happen, Yeol,” Baekhyun said softly.

“Why not?”

“I spoke to Luhan a while back.”

“And?”

Baekhyun looked at Sehun’s body. “He told me that he already has a boyfriend.”
